The Appeal
Let’s be honest, for men of a certain age, the temptation to be Simon Templar has always been strong. Where Bond was more about blunt force and gadgets, Templar relied on his instinct, charm, and stealth.
And his trusty Volvo P1800. White over red just like this 1967 P1800S and sporting the same Minilite alloys too, it was more distinctive and real world than a DB5. This car left the works painted grey but was switched to white in 1990. It is in really good order thanks to the investment of the current keeper since he bought it in 2020.
The bodywork was rectified and the paintwork repainted in 2025. Mechanically the engine was rebuilt by Amazon Cars 5,000 miles ago in 2021 and fitted with electric ignition. The overdrive, rear axle and carburettors have also been rebuilt by specialists. The rear axle features a slightly higher ratio to improve high speed cruising. Other work includes attention to the suspension and brakes and it even has new tyres by Vintage Tyres of Beaulieu. A voluntary MOT valid to February 2027 adds further transparency for buyers.
In reality, whether you love the Saint or just Sweden’s classic sports car, this P1800S is amongst the best we’ve seen in a long while.
The vendor says:
“I purchased the car in October 2020. I have extensively restored the car over the passed five years. I have notes of six previous owners but that only goes back to 2006. It has been stored in my heated garage.
“The car is in excellent order. The colour scheme and MiniLite wheels match the car in the TV series "The Saint". Drives very smoothly. I have completed a road trip in France that went without any problems. I purchased the car as a restoration project in 2020. I have completed the restoration work and now require space for my next restoration project.”
