The Appeal
It’s a testament to the humble Moggy’s unassuming brilliance that with some sensible tweaks, a later 1000 can easily be used as a daily driver. This rather lovely 1969 2dr saloon has been sensibly modified to do exactly that, but arguably it’s just too good to subject to daily use. It would make a great touring car for rallies and events.
The vendor bought it in 2021 from a classic car specialist after a long search for a very good Trafalgar Blue car. He tells us that it was described in glowing terms at the time. Looking at the photos, it’s fair to say the same applies now. A current voluntary MOT confirms the mechanical and structural condition is sound, while a large history file attests to older and more recent care. In 2020 and 2021, close to £6,000 was invested with specialist Morris Minor Millennium Centre (MMMC) on bodywork and paintwork rectification.
The upgrades are sensible and aimed at improving usability and reliability. They include a stainless steel exhaust, unleaded head, electronic ignition, front disc brakes, hazard warning lights, auxiliary gauges, 12V socket and vario wipers. Inside, the front seats have been replaced with a pair of comfortable Newton Commercial seats with headrests, and there are seatbelts fitted front and rear. The original steering wheel and front seats are included with the sale. We’re told that it has been well tuned and timed and returns 40-45 mpg on a run. It has been used regularly but sparingly and is said to have been reliable since purchase.
This is one of the nicest Minors we’ve seen in a while. With all that recent work and clever upgrades, it stands out from the competition.
