The Appeal

The Series III E Type was a much revised model which was introduced in March 1971.
As recorded in the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, this Series III E-Type is Chassis # IS50128, making it the 128th of the 14,795 of all series III models produced. The car was built in February 1971 and delivered to the dealer in April 1971 with registration on 1st June 1971.
Following its manufacture, this Jaguar was promptly dispatched to the dealership of P. J. Evans in Birmingham. The car has been enjoyed by just six former keepers until it was acquired by its current keeper in 2017, after which time the cars future became considerably brighter.
The car had, at some time in its life, been resprayed white, but the current owner had the car painted to the striking colour of Jaguar ‘Opalescent Dark Blue’ that it wears today. During the bare metal re-spray process, the body, bonnet and engine frame were completely stripped and repaired with all works carried out by The Classic Coachwork Company, based in Dunmow, Essex. All receipts totalling several thousands of pounds are contained in the history file, together with the photographic record of the event.

As the photographs attest, the E-Type presents exceptionally throughout and is undoubtably one of the smartest Series IIIs we've come across. Fans of the model will be aware most survivors are US market examples in left-hand drive, the majority of which have automatic gearboxes. So, this UK right-hand drive manual car is a rare and desirable specification that's not to be missed. Complete with advisory-free (voluntary) MOT, it's ready to go.

Fastidiously maintained, presented in stunning opalescent dark blue and regenerated to live for decades out on the open road, it is hoped that the new keeper of this British automotive icon will care for it in the manner to which it has evidently become accustomed. Indeed, there is little doubt that the car will serve its new owner well for many years to come.

History and paperwork

  • 67,600 recorded miles
  • Matching numbers, Chassis, Body, Engine, Gearbox on Heritage Certificate
  • Very early model as evidenced by serial number (February 1971) and cast Jaguar logo on rocker covers - (all later models had a sticker as the V12 engine was used in both Jaguar and Daimler cars)
  • Large history file containing receipts, Tax discs, MOT history
  • Photographic history of bare metal re-spray and overhaul
  • Dry driven and dry garaged during current ownership
  • Jaguar Owners Handbook
  • Jaguar Repair and Operation Manual
  • Jaguar Parts Catalogue
  • Original Jaguar sales brochure
  • Agreed insurance value with a major classic car insurer
  • V5C in current keeper’s name

The Condition

  • Stunning Opalescent Dark Blue paintwork
  • Chrome brightwork in exceptional condition
  • Rare factory fitted door mirrors
  • Body and paint not far from concours condition
  • Elegant Light Blue leather interior in very good condition with a lovely level of patina
Following its external regeneration, the exterior condition of this Jaguar is simply stunning. During the bare metal re-spray process the body, bonnet and engine frame were completely stripped and repaired with all works carried out by The Classic Coachwork Company based in Dunmow Essex. The bonnet was separated into its
three individual panels and reassembled prior to painting. All receipts totalling tens of thousands of pounds are contained in the history file.
There is no rust and no filler anywhere on the car, everything is solid.
The strikingly beautiful colour radiates in the sunshine, the light lenses front and rear are clear and the plastic lens covers show no hint of fogging that may sometimes be associated with a car of this age.
The front and rear bumpers are in remarkable condition and blemish-free. The new full stainless steel wheels (rims and spokes) show no scuffs or damage, the wheels are complemented by period correct, Dunlop SP sports tyres, invoice detail for the wheels and tyres are contained within the document history file. The rare, factory-fitted door mirrors really set off the classic lines of this E Type.
As far as is possible, the car has been restored to a totally historically correct original condition, with attention to detail. The paintwork is in exceptional condition, a cursory glance down each flank of the car shows no evidence of any collision damage. All doors and bonnet open and close smoothly as intended, with beautifully even panel
gaps and thankfully no sliding sunroof, which many would say destroys the roof line of such a car.
The light blue leather seats, (it has to be said the Jaguar light blue looks more grey than light blue), front and back are in a lovely condition. The car has a period-correct, Moto Lita steering wheel with wood surround, accompanied by a period correct Jaguar horn button. The head lining, door cards, side panels and carpets are all in smart good condition, showing a lovely level of natural patina. The original non-inertia seat belts remain installed as from delivery in 1971, which just adds to the experience. All switches and the clock work as intended. A period-correct Blaupunkt radio is installed and working; the radio is a restored unit with an MP3 lead integrated.

The Mechanics

  • 5.3-litre V12
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • Maintained to a very high standard
  • All running gear bushes and bearings new
  • Rear suspension springs and shocks new
  • All brake callipers fitted with stainless steel pistons
  • New hydraulic brake piping throughout
  • Full stainless steel exhaust (including new headers)
  • Engine starts well and runs with strong oil pressure
  • Effortless gear change, no synchromesh issues
  • New radiator and expansion tank (no overheating)
  • Current MOT
  • The car has an original jack and tool kit
  • Last engine oil service December 2024
  • Current MOT expires October 2025
The beautiful V12 fires up at the first ask every time and settles into an appreciative burble. The car benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust and exits with the period correct 4 pipe fan tail box. The gearbox connects smoothly and the drivetrain engages with ease, requiring just a gentle rev to get underway with bags of torque in reserve.
With significant mechanical work undertaken in recent years, the custodian reports the car to be in very good mechanical condition with steering, brakes, engine, drivetrain and running gear performing as well as their respective British engineers intended over fifty years ago. The car has a current MOT with no advisories and has been MOT’d every year since 2002, all copies are held on file.
The car is always garaged, the battery, which was new in March 2025, is maintained 24/7/365 via a maintenance conditioner.
In 2020 the independent rear suspension was disassembled and restored with new springs and GAZ adjustable shocks. Whilst the suspension frame was removed from the car the hand brake mechanism was restored and a new operating cable was installed. All hydraulic brake lines have been replaced throughout the car.
The engine bay is very tidy and clean and like the top side of this Jaguar, the underside of the car presents in very good order with none of the natural oxidation that may be expected on a car of this vintage.
There is no rust, the vendor insists.
Generally, there are a number of Series III Jaguar E-Types on the market at any one time, however, not many have received a level of restorative TLC to both body and mechanicals as this car.
