The Appeal
Starting with a plan to create a four-door E-Type, Jaguar created one of the most beautiful sedans of the last 50 years. The XJ was a considerable achievement, a real zeitgeist-smasher that offered more character than its European rivals and better ride quality than a Rolls-Royce.
Three years into production, Jaguar took the XJ five steps further with their brand new, perfectly smooth V12 engine. Just 720 right-hand-drive short-wheelbase XJ12s were built before the Series 2 arrived in 1973, and this example is car number 544 of that exclusive production run.

Refinished in Gunmetal Gray metallic with smart dark blue leather, this XJ12 benefits from significant investment by the seller since 2019. The extensive work covered the mechanicals and suspension, including major engine overhaul, full front suspension rebuild, replacement fuel tanks, and rear subframe renovation. The interior was also spruced up with refurbished veneers and recalibrated dials. It then completed the 500 mile Three Castles Road Rally across North Wales without issue.
In 2023, the car further received a new OEM V12 powerplant, extensive servicing, corrosion treatment, new firewall foams, sound deadening and some repaints. The result is that it's still a very handsome looker.
