The Appeal
The 1600M was named after TVR supremo Martin Lilley and equipped with Ford’s tough and highly tunable ‘Kent’ Crossflow 1.6L engine, good for 86bhp in standard tune. Just 68 cars were built during the 1600M’s initial two-year run, with just 148 completed in total. Light, rare and very agile, these cars are a sought-after alternative to the more common and heavier V6 cars.
This pretty 1973 car is one of the last built during that first run. Now finished in Starmist Grey following a 2021 restoration managed by the current keeper, it is an extremely tidy, attractive and nicely detailed example. The seller describes the restoration as a ‘complete rebuild’ and notes it included a professional respray and a full cabin retrim in black and Berry Red, including the dashboard, door cards, headlining, and bespoke carpets.
The car has covered very few miles since completion, resulting in impressive condition in the photos. Described as ‘simply stunning’ by the seller, it’s hard not to disagree. The 1600M is one of the rarest and most entertaining home-grown coupes, and this example is surely among the best available.
