Engine rebuilt in 2007 by Europa Engineering at 72,675 miles
Less than 3,000 miles covered since engine rebuild
Resprayed in 2018, interior refreshed in same year
Original JPS colours, changed from factory purple with DVLA in 1983
The Appeal
It's little wonder that the Europa was every bit as eccentric as you'd expect from Chapman's house. Featherweight to the extreme thanks to its Y-frame chassis and fibreglass body panels, this mid-engined sports car was unmistakable from the off - it was an odd looker, with a duck-bill front and boot space at both ends, powered by a Ford-derived Twin Cam and boasting impressive, if highly-strung dynamics for the would-be daredevil that invariably got behind the wheel.
This particular example wears the iconic JPS livery—a colour scheme synonymous with Lotus's golden age of motorsport—having been changed from its original factory purple back in 1983. The engine was comprehensively rebuilt in 2007 by Europa Engineering, renowned specialists in the marque, at 72,675 miles. Since then, fewer than 3,000 miles have been covered, testament to the car's careful use and preservation. The vendor informs us that it has been kept mainly in secure dry storage in Sussex since the rebuild, which has clearly helped maintain its condition.
More recently, the car benefited from a respray in 2018 and had its interior refreshed in the same year, ensuring it presents well both inside and out. With just two registered keepers spanning four decades from 1985 to 2025, and reportedly accompanied by an impressive history file, this Europa represents a sound example of Lotus's innovative mid-engined sports car, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.image.png1.4 MB
