The Appeal
If you're looking for a classic camper van, the Volkswagen T2 Combi is a must-have. While many have only seen occasional trips to the coast, this 1974 example has seen some real adventures. Its current owner bought it in 2021 and, after a restoration, took it on a two-and-a-half-year journey through Latin America.
It is now in France and offered for sale after several mechanical interventions, including piston ring work in 2024, the installation of electronic ignition and the replacement of several components between 2025 and 2026. It presents well thanks to its 2021 restoration, which, according to the seller, included a full repaint in its current mint green and white livery, engine work and a refreshed interior.
The original interior conversion is by Alzaga, a Mexican specialist in camper van conversions and a rival to Westfalia. The vehicle has a pop-top roof, a fold-down bed, an electrical system partly powered by a solar panel, and plenty of storage.
The seller says the engine runs regularly and that the Combi starts easily. With its practical layout and compact dimensions, this T2 has already proven itself over a long journey across a continent.
The seller says:
“The vehicle drives very well. The engine runs smoothly, reaches 85 km/h with no problem and climbs hills. Of course, it's still a 1974 camper van, with shock absorbers that squeak, a slight whiff of fuel and some backfiring from the exhaust on downhills!
We've always dreamed of traveling in a T2 camper. What strikes you first is obviously its unique look! The round headlights, the big VW logo and the two-tone bodywork give it an instantly cool vibe. I particularly love the chrome hubcaps and the sound of this legendary engine, a rear-mounted flat-four. The layout is remarkably well thought out, and the compact dimensions let it go anywhere.”
