The Appeal

All Tritons, with their combination of Norton Featherbed frame and Triumph engine, are worthy of note, but this one is particularly impressive. Originally built and registered by the current owner in 1976, Classic Bike Magazine ran a feature in 2018 dubbing it a particularly "delicious special” - and we can't argue with that appraisal.

In 1980 the mount's engine was changed to a unit-construction T120, with a Rickman 8-valve conversion to add superior performance to the already brilliant handling of the Featherbed frame. The bike was later completely rebuilt in 2015 by Dresda, incorporating a host of Dresda mods and specialised parts the owner had acquired.

The bike uses a 1955 Norton Wideline Featherbed frame, with modified Roadholder forks and a very rare double-sided mag-alloy Robinson 4LS brake. The engine comprises 1967 Triumph T120 (Bonneville) crankcases with a T140 crank and Rickman 8-valve conversion (head, pistons and barrels - giving nominal 688cc), lightened rockers and Dresda valves. At 6000rpm it puts out a whopping 53bhp at the rear wheel (with the bhp still climbing), and it produces over 45ft/lb of torque all the way from 3500-6000rpm. Weighing approximately 155kg (without fuel) it’s quick, yet averages 70mpg.
