The Appeal
Occupying a unique place in British automotive history, the two-door Range Rover is widely regarded as one of the most influential and enduringly iconic 4x4s ever produced, combining unrivalled off-road capability with a level of comfort and refinement that would redefine expectations of the genre. Introduced in 1970, the original model quickly established itself as a benchmark for both utility and luxury. As appreciation for the classic Range Rover has grown, these early two-door examples have become increasingly sought after, with Suffix D cars now firmly established among the most desirable and collectable of the marque.
This 1977 example has been in the current registered keeper's hands since August 2012 and was subjected to a thorough restoration over the following two years. The bodywork was resprayed, the chassis was stripped back, inspected and treated, and the mechanicals were overhauled. It is now fitted with a 3.9-litre V8 with a four-barrel Holley carburettor, which the vendor states runs, drives and sounds well. Inside, the car retains its period-correct trim and original steering wheel, while the exterior brightwork is finished in the correct colours for the Suffix D specification.
This is an honest, usable classic rather than a concours piece. Its keeper has used it regularly for family outings and local classic car events, completing an annual 80-mile road trip for four consecutive years. A large file of receipts documents the care it has received, and a substantial collection of spares is available by separate negotiation.
