It’s a real shame that MG never exploited the B’s performance potential, but this 1978 Inca Yellow car proves what is possible when you do. It was fitted with an Ivor Searle 2L engine around 10,000 miles and 10 years ago, and it’s a neat touch that we’re told turns the roadster into a proper sports car. 

The car also benefits from a pair of more comfortable leather high back seats that appear to have come from a MGF. Those changes, plus a long-legged factory overdrive gearbox, help make this 1978 rubber bumper one of the more usable and enjoyable Bs that we’ve seen in a while. 

There is scope to improve the car’s exterior cosmetics, but it is tidy and usable and is said to run and drive well. For classic fans who prefer to get out and drive rather than show and tell, this improved B fits the bill.
