Looking for the sweet spot in the classic Land Rover lineage? Well, you might just have found it. Combining the charm of the original Series Land Rovers with the vastly improved chassis of early coil-sprung models, the Ninety and One Ten produced during those wilderness years between the end of the Series III and the advent of Defender in 1990 are arguably the most appealing in the company's whole back catalogue.
This 1984 example is now among the first road tax ULEZ-exempt coil-sprung Land Rovers, making for a refreshingly straightforward ownership proposition. But this is no ordinary Ninety. It has been upgraded with a 3.9-litre V8 engine with fuel injection and a reconditioned R380 manual five-speed gearbox.
The vendor tells us:
"It drives very well on the road (has new road tyres), sounds great (British V8) and looks good! Tons of torque and loads of power, it will pull away without effort in 5th gear from 30mph. I'm moving abroad for work; otherwise, I would not sell it."
