The Appeal
The world of 911 restomods is a healthy, vibrant and very creative one. Few creations, however, are quite as intriguing and eye-catching as this one. Built as a one-off by a highly experienced 911 restomodder, this remarkable 964 ‘RDG Speedster’ is for the buyer who wants both something different and to turn heads.
The work was carried out around 4 years ago using a donor car, a 964 Carrera 2 cabriolet. It has, as the photos prove, been extensively developed with a wide body and a clever removable hard top that apes the classic factory Speedsters, originally made famous by James Dean. The roof is trimmed in carbon fibre. Other details include deep dish 17in polished Fuchs and LED lights.
Beneath the bonnet is a 3.6L, 250bhp engine mated to a G50 5spd gearbox, both from a low-mileage donor car. Elsewhere, there are adjustable shocks and an uprated exhaust. Now finished in matt grey with red decals and two-tone bespoke interior, it is a paean to the creative motoring arts.
The vendor acquired the car in August 2024, shortly after it appeared in a multi-page Classic Porsche article. The car has been sparingly used since completion and is in very good order. The MOT supports this - it runs to late August 2026 with no advisories.
If you’re after a standard air-cooled 911, look away. If you want a bespoke conversation-magnet that absolutely stands out, read on.
