Fitted with 2.8-litre VR6 engine
Benefits from subtle exterior and interior upgrades

The Appeal
The now-legendary Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk2 is highly sought-after, especially in later ‘big bumper’ form with the metallic Oak Green exterior colour. The car was rightly praise for offering sparkling performance and benign yet engaging handling, coupled to the practicality of the regular Golf. This 1990 three-door example offers all the qualities of the original with additional performance and a six-cylinder soundtrack, thanks to its 2.8-litre VR6 engine – the narrow-angle powerplant originally fitted to the Golf Mk3.
The beautifully-presented exterior is complemented by custom two-piece, two-tone 17-inch Sebring wheels (reminiscent of the style fitted to the Golf Rallye) with 195/40 tyres. ‘VR6’ badges can be found in place of the original ‘GTI’ badges on the boot lid and front doors. The seller reports that the exterior been machine-polished and ceramic-coated. The door handles have had the key slots removed; the car is now equipped with remote central locking, and has been fitted with an alarm.
Inside, the interior has been upgraded with a custom-fitted half-leather interior from the Mk5 Golf, offering greater support and electrical adjustment, complete with tartan centre seat sections and a custom parcel shelf, complemented by red seatbelts and red accents on the steering wheel and floor mat edges. A ‘VR6’ badge can be found on the glovebox, and there are chrome treadplates with ‘Golf GTI’ script.
The seller states that they have owned the car since 2024, and the VR6 conversion was undertaken before their purchase. The car has a full stainless steel exhaust, and the seller states it has recently received an oil change and new undertray, and that the underside has been Lanoguard-coated to help prevent corrosion. This car has covered little more than 1,000 miles since October 2022, and is described by the seller as ‘a real head-turner that is great to drive’. It is now ready for its unique qualities to be appreciated and enjoyed by a new owner. image.png1.76 MB
