The Appeal
The 993 may have looked a lot like its predecessors, but in typical Porsche fashion, this final outing for the air-cooled generation was very different. Key to that was the clever alloy multi-link rear suspension attached to an alloy subframe. It accounts for the car’s wider rear and, crucially, its more predictable and much-improved handling. The setup proved so good it was carried over into the 996.
It is no surprise, then, that for those who love driving their classic 911s, the 993 is the one to have. A high-quality, hot-dipped galvanised body means these later cars tend to last well too, as this pretty Ventura Green Carrera 2 proves. It is a desirable six-speed manual car and has been enthusiast-owned by the current keeper since 2003.
The car is in very good condition and a pleasing mix of originality and improvements. The latter relates to the mechanicals and running gear, which have been significantly overhauled in recent years. Notable work includes a full engine rebuild by specialist Pie Performance in 2019, 13,000 miles ago. At around the same time, the suspension was effectively fully rebuilt, before being set up correctly by experts at the Centre of Gravity. Those are two highlights from an otherwise very thick history file.
With advisory-free MOT to May 2026, this is a well-maintained and nicely specified example of the 993, a car that is increasingly garnering enthusiast interest. One to drive and definitely enjoy.
