Highlights
- Only two owners from new
- Stored off road for much of its life
- Mechanicals appear to be in good order
The Appeal
Known as Toyota’s baby Ferrari, the second-generation MR2 expanded on the iconic 1980s original in every sense. Bigger, faster and more sophisticated, this W20 model featured sleek styling at odds with the boxier designs that preceded and succeeded it. It retained a mid-engine rear-drive mechanical layout, with outstanding handling propelled by a rorty twin-cam two-litre engine.
This particular car has just passed the 250,000 mile mark, but as Toyotas are capable of doubling this mileage, that shouldn’t be a concern. Of more interest to Toyota aficionados will be the condition of the interior, with its original striped fabric seats, dashboard and switchgear all retained. The car has current MOT to May 2026 so is ready to use. Theere is scope to improve it as you enjoy it. The driver’s door card needs attention and the windscreen is currently secured down with tape. The dash still hosts a period radio cassette player, while most of the switchgear signage remains clearly visible despite three decades of use.
Ongoing maintenance has included replacement rear brake pads and adjustments to the parking brake, with a service recently carried out. In the right hands, this MR2 has the potential to rack up many more miles, while its unmodified specification will be a huge draw for fans of unmodified modern classics.
