The Appeal
BMW’s shark-nosed Z3 is back in demand, and with good reason. As characterful as a 60s or 70s classic, but considerably easier to own, it is also more entertaining than most of the raft of two-seat convertibles launched in the wake of the MX5’s success.
The torquey M52-powered 2.8L car is essentially a modern Austin Healey 3000, and it's the one many enthusiasts are gravitating toward. We suspect this 1999 example will be in demand, not just for that specification but for much that elevates it above available alternatives. For starters, it is in the desirable ‘Goldeneye’ specification: Atlanta Blue metallic paint with Taupe/Sand Beige speckled leather. Then there’s the mileage - it has covered less than 32,000 miles from new. The MOT and service history support that figure. As a September 1999-built car, it is one of the very last 2.8Ls assembled and also a desirable 2000MY car with double VANOS and the ‘wide body.’
Buyers will know that, as with any car of this age, there are key areas to check. In each one, this Z3 checks out well. It is a really well-presented car that we think won't disappoint a serious collector. The service book shows a run of stamps by the same BMW specialist and it comes to market with a fresh service and long MOT.
Whether you’re here to bag a less obvious Bond car or you just love great six cylinder roadsters, this smart Z3 has strong appeal.
