The Appeal
They called it Clio, but that is where the similarity between this Sport V6 and Renault’s Papa & Nicole supermini ends. Ok, we’ll concede the looks are a bit similar too, but everything else? Not one bit.
The Sport V6 was a mad idea. There had been nothing like it before, and there never was again. For starters, it was hand-built by Renault RS Division and TWR as a halo model for showrooms and a weapon on the track. It got Renault’s 3L V6 engine - of course it did - which was, naturally, located behind the seats, and drive was switched to the rear wheels. Pumped up bodywork and a 6spd gearbox completed a car that looked like a hot hatch but had all the brio of a supercar.
Just 256 were built in RHD for the UK. Depending on your source, between 100 and 200 remain. Classically finished in Iceberg Silver with a black leather and suede interior, this very well-kept example has covered less than 80,000 miles with its handful of keepers.
The current keeper acquired it last year to join his large collection of cars and bikes. It has been little used but comes to market with a fresh service and new clutch slave cylinder, the latter a not insignificant investment. The service book shows regular servicing throughout the car’s life.
The car is very well kept and a good example of the early Phase 1 model. It will be sold with a fresh 12-month MOT.
