The Appeal
Some classic Defenders are built for work, some are built to look great. This clever 2004 TD5 manages to deliver both at the same time. Badged as a ‘Special Vehicles’ model, it is a 90 Pickup with factory standard aesthetics but a neatly upgraded interior.
Finished in Oslo blue, we’re told that it has been used only for light work, and you can tell. The bodywork is well preserved, as is the structure. The vendor tells us that the bulkhead and chassis are original and in good order. There are no structural advisories on the current MOT. Inside, there is an upgraded interior with Lucari Sports seats, Exmoor cubby box and JVC stereo.
The maintenance history shows regular servicing by specialists. Other notable work advised by the seller since he acquired it in 2023 includes ECU rebuilt by ECU Testing in Derby, with a lifetime warranty, Pace Automotive sealed injector harness, genuine rocker head gasket and grommets, new OEM wiper motor and wiper boxes/spindles with Aero Twin wipers and stainless steel downpipe and straight through exhaust centre-piece.

“I bought the vehicle in December 2023 from a guy near Port Isaac, who had owned it for about 3 or 4 years prior. He used it primarily for towing a caravan and taking his windfoil to the beach. The Part Service history (PSH) is almost entirely from this chap - who had it very well looked after, including underbody waxoyling, at a local Garage in St. Minver. There is good history of fluid changes over those years. He purchased it from someone else in Oxford.
“It has a valid MOT with no advisories until October 2026, and has been stored outdoors and indoors during my tenure - and used predominantly driving to and from the beach with a surfboard in the back, and up to Devon for weekends away. Ive covered around 9000-10000 miles in the past 2 years.”
