The Appeal
Taking a number with special resonance for Mercedes enthusiasts, one that recalls Albert Van Goertz beautiful roadster, and applying it to the W204-generation C63 delivered one of the rarest and most powerful AMG Mercedes saloons of recent times. Just 1,000 507 Edition cars were sold worldwide, all featuring heavily reworked 6.2L M156 V8 engines incorporating features from the SLS AMG like forged pistons and connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft.
Very few 507 Editions were sold in this car’s optional Fire Opal Red. A quick check of the factory Datacard shows that it has the P61 code that denotes the 507bhp cars. The vendor acquired the car last year and has expended considerable sums to bring it up to the standard you see in the photos. Work has included a full respray in the original colour and a check over and service by a respected marque specialist. Alongside servicing, all fluids were replaced, new brake pads fitted, and the a/c regassed.
This is one of the rarest and most capable C-Class Mercedes of recent years. A lengthy Qatari technical inspection valid to February 2027 underlines the condition.
The vendor says:
“This car is the last large engine size, naturally aspirated V8 in the C63 AMG and is a limited edition to mark the end of an era for AMG, with upgraded forged engine parts helping to push out 507bhp (up from the earlier 457bhp). The following year the C63 engine size got smaller with turbos attached, they are not the same car and never will be again. So this Edition 507 is a special car in many ways, the M156 engine is at its prime, the driving experience is fantastic, exhilarating and powerful at the same time. The power is instant and linear as an aspirated V8 should give, while the performance exhaust adds considerable power and a powerful soundtrack especially on the open road with the revs up at high speed, it really is a supercar.
“I knew all of this before I bought the car as I already am the happy owner of a C63 and when I saw this one for sale locally I knew I had to buy it and drive it, especially in the Mars Red colour which in my opinion is the best colour for this car. This car is an absolute head turner too and the interior is a really nice place to be in as well, very functional but also great for just cruising around. An AMG enthusiast will understand all of the above without difficulty and these cars are quite rare. In my personal opinion the red colour sedan with the black leather/alcantara interior with red accents is the best combination to have too, it simply works and matches the fiery nature of the engine and drive!!!”
