The Appeal
The Mitsubishi GTO, or 3000GT as it was sold outside of its native Japan, represented the technological ambition of the Japanese auto industry in the early 1990s. Climb into a GTO and you might be forgiven for thinking you’re in a car from the mid-2000s, given the levels of technology on offer.
This 1994 Mitsubishi is a genuine series two JDM GTO, imported from Tokyo in 2004. Being a series two car, it offers all the remarkable tech that made these cars famous: Active aero, electronically controlled suspension, four-wheel-drive and four-wheel-steering to mention just the high points.
If you grew up lusting after the JDM legends featured in Gran Turismo, but have been priced out of Skylines, Supras, RX-7s and the like, then a Mitsubishi GTO offers an excellent alternative.
Unlike many GTOs or 3000GTs for sale, this example represents the “full-fat” experience, being a twin-turbo, manual gearbox car. As a series two model, the manual gearbox is a six-speed rather than the series one car’s five-speed. This might be the last affordable JDM legend, so pick one up while you can.
The vendor says:
"Less than 5000 miles since cam belt replacement. Recently fitted new coil packs, plugs and leads, exhaust work at a cost of £1600. 40% uprated clutch. This car has always been regularly maintained professionally and has been 100 per cent reliable since ownership."
