The appeal

The MG TD is one of the most loved British sports cars of the early 1950s. With its 1,250 cc XPAG engine, four-speed manual gearbox and classic T-series styling, the TD offered a more refined driving experience than its predecessor, the TC, while keeping the character that had won over enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. Many American servicemen bought these little roadsters before shipping them home, helping make the MG one of the icons of British motoring. Even today it remains a very popular model, prized for its charm, its driving enjoyment and the availability of parts.

This 1951 example was imported from the United States by its current owner in early 2026. Customs and registration formalities have been completed, and the car now holds a French collector's registration document. It was restored at an unknown date, to what the seller describes as a good standard. Elegant and usable, it could be shown at concours after some further refurbishment, or simply enjoyed on the road in its current condition.

✓ GST is included in the buyer's deposit. GST may or may not be included in the final offer or bid price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want the transaction to go smoothly, just as you do, which is why UK-registered cars and motorcycles listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to confirm they carry no insurance database markers for damage or theft and are not subject to a finance lien, so you can bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as written off following a total loss at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic, and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle's status, and it is always worthwhile to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
