The Appeal

The MG TD is one of the most cherished British sports cars of the early 1950s. With its 1,250 cc XPAG engine, four-speed manual gearbox and classic T-series styling, the TD offered a more refined driving experience than its predecessor, the TC, while keeping the character that had won over enthusiasts on both sides of the Atlantic. Many American servicemen bought these little roadsters and took them home, helping make the MG one of the icons of British motoring. Even today it remains very popular, prized for its charm, its driving enjoyment and the availability of spare parts.

This 1951 example was imported from the United States by its current owner in early 2026. Customs and registration formalities have been completed, and the car now holds a French collector's carte grise. It was restored at an unknown date, to what the seller describes as a good standard. Elegant and usable, it could be shown at concours after some further preparation, or simply enjoyed on the road as it stands.

✓ We want the transaction to go smoothly, just as you do, which is why UK-registered cars and motorcycles listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to confirm they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft and are not subject to outstanding finance, so you can bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as written off following a total loss at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic, and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle's status, and it is always worth carrying out a full vehicle history check before making an offer.
