The Appeal
After its XK120 brought the British marque to the public’s attention, Jaguar developed the concept, firstly with the XK140, then with the much-changed and updated XK150, which brought modern features such as a one-piece windscreen and a wider, more muscular body with a raised guard line. The car offered customers more power, more space and more luxury, especially when the SE (‘Special Equipment’) model was launched in 1958, bringing Dunlop disc brakes and 220hp when fitted with the 3.8-litre version of the DOHC ‘XK’ straight-six engine.
This 3.8-litre SE from 1960 is believed to be one of fewer than 1,400 XK150 Fixed Head Coupés supplied in right-hand drive form. Its history in the hands of its first owner officially ended around 1971. Around 45 years later, it was found, seemingly abandoned, and purchased by the seller and their father; they then sensitively restored the car, which has been kept on static display since then.
The car has not been over-restored, but retains a very pleasing patina; the walnut-veneered dashboard and door cappings have been replaced with padded leather trim. It has recently been brought up to running order, and while some further recommissioning may be required, the seller says they “see no reason why it should not be returned to the road 60 years after it fell out of use”.
The car is supplied with original paperwork, including the buff logbook that suggests it had only one owner before the current owner. The seller states that the car was allowed to disappear from the DVLA’s records when the database was computerised. It is therefore currently in need of registration, but the logbook should aid the process of re-registration and the car being reallocated the ‘44 TTW’ number it originally officially wore.
This handsome and attractive XK150 is a very fortunate survivor that, with re-registration and a little attention, becomes not only attention-grabbing but also highly usable.

✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do, and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic, and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status, and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
