The Appeal
Jaguar bought Daimler to control a rival and secure precious factory capacity. But the deal came with a hidden bonus - Edward Turner’s rather brilliant small-block 2.5L V8 engine. Jaguar spotted the opportunity and created one of the 60s motoring’s great gems - the Daimler V8. For those lucky enough to have driven one, these cars offer an interesting alternative to the Mk2, with an intoxicating soundtrack and a very engaging, responsive drive.
The slim-bumpered V8 250 arrived in mid-1967 and was built in small numbers for just two years. This Old English White example is a 1968 model that pairs a well-kept exterior with a smart red Ambla interior. A set of painted red wires adds some extra character. The car presents well in the usual Mk2 check areas, notably the sills, door bottoms, arches and wing tops. The interior wood shows some age, but it is not unsightly.
The current keeper has owned the car since 1988, and it forms part of his large marque collection. It has been used very sparingly in recent years, covering very few miles since extensive mechanical work between 2015 and 2019. This included the carburettors, brake system, suspension, fuel system, and a replacement water pump. The engine and gearbox were serviced less than 20 miles ago in 2019.
Kept throughout seller’s 38 year ownership in a heated garage and additionally maintained over the decades by a private ex-Jaguar mechanic as part of a larger collection. Stored throughout ownership in a heated garage Original number plate included on car. Any inspection welcome via arrangement through the estate manager. Seller’s pre sale inspection advises that the car is in excellent original condition with great shine to the paint and chromework.
The car starts well, sounds absolutely glorious with the V8 burble and he hopes any new owner will treasure it as much as the current collector.
This much-loved car is emerging from long-term ownership after 41 years. This is a chance to acquire a tidy, lightly used V8-250 that, after some general checks, would work well commercially for weddings or as a touring car.
