The Appeal
The Triumph TR5 was the first British production vehicle to feature Lucas mechanical fuel injection, liberating a healthy 150 bhp from its 2.5-litre straight-six, a considerable advance over the four-cylinder TR4A it replaced. Built for just 15 months and with fewer than 3,000 examples produced, the TR5 is considered by many the best of the lot, enjoying the clean unsullied looks of the TR4 with the power of the TR6.
This super later UK matching numbers example, first registered in late August of 1968, was subject of a professional restoration in previous ownership, using as a basis a new replacement chassis. In 2016 the TR5 was converted by Webcon to their ‘Alpha Pro5’ digital fuel injection standard, including full ignition mapping with no distributor. This car was used for years as Webcon’s factory demonstrator of the Efi conversion.
The vendor says: "This is a very fast TR5 and the Efi conversion allows the engine to pull hard throughout the rev range. It is fitted with the stronger J type gearbox and overdrive and a rebuild diff. Rolling road tuning confirmed c.170bhp (vs. 140bhp in standard road trim), with c.180lb/ft of torque."
