The Appeal
The Ford Capri was never offered as a factory convertible, so when you encounter a Mk1 drop-top, you're looking at something truly rare. Specialist coachbuilders such as Crayford in the UK and Karl Deutsch in Germany converted a small number of factory coupés into soft-top cabriolets, reinforcing the floor and pillars to compensate for the loss of the roof structure. Fewer than 100 Mk1 convertibles are estimated to have ever been created, making any surviving example a remarkable find.
This 1973 example is powered by the 2.3-litre Cologne V6 and is painted in Onyx Metallic Green over a black interior, complemented by period 13-inch coffin-spoke alloy wheels and a Veglia cassette radio. It is accompanied by a series of invoices from Johanny Classic Auto, a specialist in classic vehicles in La Roche-sur-Yon, documenting work carried out between 2015 and 2025 including attention to the engine, brakes and fuel system.

✓ We want the transaction to run smoothly, just as you do, and that's why cars and motorcycles registered in the UK and sold on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to verify they have no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and are not subject to a financial charge, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are registered as written off as a result of a total loss claim at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. The presence or absence of a label does not, however, guarantee the vehicle's status and it is always useful to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
✓ Buyers are responsible for collection or delivery of the vehicle. Importing vehicles may incur additional customs duties and import taxes.
