The Appeal

The Citroën Méhari is one of the most iconic and quirky models of 1970s French production. With its lightweight ABS bodywork, open-top design and air-cooled flat-twin borrowed from the 2CV family, it offers a driving experience all of its own. Its mechanical simplicity and fun character continue to win over classic car enthusiasts.

This 1977 example, finished in light green, benefits from a documented service history backed by several years of invoices. Its 602 cc engine was replaced in 2011 with a factory-reconditioned standard exchange unit. The fuel system has also had recent attention, with the fuel pump replaced in 2023 and a new twin-barrel carburettor fitted in 2024.

The seller says the car starts immediately and runs very well. The bodywork does, however, show cracks, signs of wear and previous repairs. Most importantly, the classic vehicle contrôle technique (French MOT) on 13 October 2026 was failed. Several major defects must be corrected before a re-inspection, notably the lighting, wheel bearings, front right suspension mounting and horn. The report also notes corrosion on both sides of the chassis and a deteriorated floor pan.

This Méhari therefore has a promising basis, but requires mechanical and structural restoration, the cost of which should be assessed before purchase.
