The Appeal
Compared to the old-fashioned T Series cars it replaced, the MGA must have seemed like a spaceship when it rolled out of the Abingdon works for the first time in September 1955. It remains one of the most celebrated British sports cars of the 1950s, its clean lines and eager character earning the MGA a devoted following that endures to this day. This particular example, however, stands apart thanks to a notable competition career in one of the world's most demanding historic rallying events.
Prepared by North London MG specialist Steve Efstathiou, this MGA was campaigned in the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique from 2002 to 2010, entering eight times and finishing every single event. Class wins in 2006 and 2007 further highlight its competitive pedigree. The car has been registered with FIVA since 2001 and carries identity card #018893.
Beneath the Tartan Red bodywork lies a comprehensively uprated drivetrain and a number of thoughtful modifications suited to sustained hard use, all detailed below. The vendor states that the exterior bodywork is in very good order, though the interior leatherwork is noted as tired and worn in places. In the current ownership since September 2012, this is an MGA with genuine competition provenance and a story well worth exploring.image.png1.33 MB
