The Appeal

With enthusiast interest in the ground-breaking water-cooled 996 continuing to grow, certain models are beginning to stand out and one of them is the C4S. Likely that’s down to the appeal of the wide ‘Turbo’ body and planted AWD system, ticking both cosmetic and driver appeal boxes.

This very tidy, low-mileage Tiptronic C4s is finished in rare optional Meridian Silver, a chameleon-like shade that shifts colour in changing light. It is not a pure, sterile silver; instead, it is a complex, liquid-like platinum hue with distinct warm undertones. As you can see in the photos, it looks great. It’s matched with an equally rare Savanna Beige leather cabin. With only 49,000 miles, both are in very good order.

The vendor bought the car in November 2023 and has sorted key maintenance areas that we suspect will be high on any buyer’s checklist. These include the IMS and RMS, done as part of an engine-out renovation by specialists D&G Porsche in 2024. In 2025 the gearbox was checked, and service, a/c regassed, smart 18in ‘Turbo Twist’ alloys refurbished and front and rear discs and pads replaced. This year the car was serviced in May by specialist David Phillips and received new exhaust silencers in the same month. The current MOT reinforces the sense that this is a well-sorted car.

“The car is great to drive, and I’ll miss it. It’s a great road trip car and can cover the miles. It’s the last of the analogue cars. It has character but is easy to live with. All the major jobs are done. They are a magnificent thing.”

“For a good number of years it was owned by an older chap in Brampton. It was pretty much unused for a few years when I purchased it off a dealer in Preston. Initially it was serviced by Porsche dealers or independent garages. I have had a lot of work done to the car since I have had it. I’ve spent about £6500 on it. I used D and G Porsche in Newcastle. I am now using Dave Philips in Edinburgh for a recent full service. Dave specialises in Porsche and Ferrari. He is a superb mechanic and has a great reputation. I have a new silencer system to go on the car, but it is not fitted yet. It’s a Top Gear mild system. I don’t like loud exhausts. The car has been garaged most of its life.”

The vendor says:

“The Meridian silver paint is in very good condition. It was an expensive option when new. It is a rare colour. I like the car's slightly understated colour and smooth lines. It has the rear wiper, which is handy. It has no scrapes. The underside is in good condition. The car obviously hasn’t been used much in the winter.

“The interior is in excellent condition. The driver's seat has a little patina. I have been feeding the leather to soften it a bit. Everything in the car works, and the air conditioning is ice cold. The new key is great; the second key doesn’t work on the buttons but is handy as a spare. The new key cost £360 including £80 coding to the car.”

“The car has all the major work done. Routine servicing should keep it running well for years to come. The old IMS bearing was perfect when it came out. The car doesn’t use any oil and runs very well. When D and G Porsche had the engine out, they did a lot of preventative repairs that are impossible to do with the engine in. They also serviced the gearbox. It doesn’t have a full main dealer history, but it has had a lot of oil changes for a low-mileage car. The specialists I have used have all said it is a well-looked-after car.”
