The Appeal
RUF Automobile is no mere tuning house: recognised by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority as an independent manufacturer, the Dieter Ruf–founded firm has spent decades extracting extraordinary performance from the flat-six platform. The RT600, based on the 997-generation 911 Turbo, represents one of the most formidable expressions of that philosophy. With comprehensive engine, chassis and braking upgrades applied to the twin-turbocharged Mezger unit, the result is a 600 hp, all-wheel-drive machine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, a combination few cars of its era could match. With just 23 examples thought to have been built, the RT600 is vanishingly rare.
Originally finished in Cobalt Blue, this example has since been resprayed in Classic Grey and wears a burgundy racing stripe, an exposed carbon-fibre bonnet, the RUF RT12S front bumper with LED daytime running lights, and carbon-fibre door mirrors. Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed in bespoke burgundy Alcantara with grey double stitching, complemented by folding carbon-fibre bucket seats and a RUF steering wheel.
The odometer shows 65,303 miles, and the car is reportedly accompanied by its handbooks, service books, and a collection of invoices documenting its modifications and maintenance. For those seeking a genuine RUF-built machine from the Mezger turbo era with the engagement of a manual gearbox, this RT600 presents a rare opportunity.
