Description
Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 4 Coupé – 6 speed manual transmission
From time to time, a car comes to us at Cathedral Classics that warrants a little additional attention, and this remarkable Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 4 is certainly one such car.
Designed by for Porsche by Tony Hatter, the 993 is widely regarded as one of the most beautifully resolved iterations of the iconic 911. Hatter retained the unmistakable silhouette of its 964 predecessor while substantially modernising the design. The integrated bumpers, smoother bodywork, lower nose and beautifully resolved rear end gave the 993 a more contemporary and cohesive appearance, while preserving the character that makes a 911 instantly recognisable. More than three decades later, it remains a genuine head-turner and a design that has stood the test of time exceptionally well.
This original German-market specification car was first registered in March 1995 and has clearly enjoyed the care of six exceptionally fastidious custodians. Its history file is particularly impressive, containing dozens of invoices dating back to 2001, together with an impressive 35 documented service stamp entries.
Finished in the timeless Porsche Grand Prix White (L90D), the car was professionally repainted around 2013 and continues to present with a remarkably even and attractive finish today. The crisp white bodywork perfectly complements the purposeful lines of the 993, and is arguably becoming a rare colour in today’s market.
At 211, 555 km, the engine underwent a comprehensive rebuild by Seibold Auto & Sport in 2015, at a cost of a whopping €23, 000. Since that work was completed, the car has travelled just 34, 000 km. Despite its relatively high overall kilometres, the engine remains remarkably strong, with excellent performance and the character expected of a properly maintained Porsche flat-six. The extensive supporting documentation provides compelling evidence of the care invested in this car over the years and true Porsche aficionado will not fear such relatively high kilometres.
Inside, the cabin provides a comfortable yet distinctly sporting environment, featuring leather and Alcantara sports seats, an Alcantara steering wheel and strong air conditioning. The combination gives the interior a purposeful, driver-focused character while retaining the comfort and usability for which the 993 is renowned. A modern Becker Cascade Bluetooth radio has replaced the factory unit.
The 18 inch Turbo wheels and tyres are all in superb condition; the 265/ 35R 18 (rear) and 225/ 40R 18 (front) Michelin rubber is from 2023 completing what is an extremely attractive and highly usable example of Porsche’s last air-cooled 911. Images of the cars detailed underside confirm its incredibly well maintained life.
The 993 was the first generation of the Porsche 911 to feature a six-speed manual transmission, replacing the five-speed gearbox of its 964 predecessor. Combined with its iconic air-cooled 3. 6-litre flat-six, timeless design and advanced all-wheel-drive system with upgraded Bielstein suspension, the 993 has become one of the most sought-after modern-classic 911s among collectors worldwide.
Remarkably, only 2, 884 examples of the 272 PS 993 Carrera 4 Coupé were produced worldwide, making this configuration considerably rarer than the standard rear-wheel-drive Carrera. This particular car is a 1995 left-hand-drive European-specification Carrera 4 Coupé, making it a particularly desirable example of this limited-production variant.
