The Appeal

Perhaps one of the most iconic cars in history, the 2CV and its decidedly simple design is an immediately recognisable vehicle. The car was in production for over forty years, aided in part by its innovative suspension, and easily serviceable air-cooled engine that required only a basic working knowledge. By the end of production, over 3.8 million were built.

This example, with the largest engine the cars carried at a whopping (!) 602cc, comes to us following a restoration, and looks to be in utterly superb condition - ready and waiting to prove its sheer versatility for the lucky buyer.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in Spain in 1975
  • The car appears to have spent its entire life in this country
  • Car was restored ‘a few years ago’
  • Crankshaft has recently been repaired
  • Indicates 75,853km
  • Comes complete with a current ITV
  • Car is provided with current Spanish documentation and the original registration certificate

The Interior

  • Highly original interior, fully restored
  • Red fabric seats are in good order with no rips or tears we can spot
  • Dashboard presents well with only light signs of age-commensurate patina
  • The glove box door appears to be dented
  • All instruments are reportedly original, save the modern radio unit
  • The Skoda radio unit is not particularly well mounted and the buyer may wish to rectify this
  • Steering wheel and dials all present well with only minor wear
  • The car’s door cards are nicely kept with only light sagging
  • Floor mats appear to be in good order with no major faults
  • Headlining is in decent order with some age-commensurate staining
  • Boot is in good order with no corroded metal we can spot

The Exterior

  • Finished in the almost ubiquitous 2CV6 red livery
  • Bodywork appears to be in fine fettle with no clear faults we can spot
  • Some very light wear can be spotted on the paintwork, though this is minor
  • Twin-horse hood ornament presents well and adds quite a focal point to the car
  • Chrome trims present well with light patina, including the grille and bumper
  • Lenses and glasswork presents well with no chips or fractures
  • Car is sitting on its original steel wheels
  • Tyres look to be in good order with plenty of tread
  • The car’s underside is in good order with only light wear we can spot

The Mechanics

  • 602cc H2 air-cooled engine - producing a whopping (!) 29hp
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • Car was fully rebuilt a few years ago and is now in fine working order
  • We’ve no reports of leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke from the engine bay
  • To our knowledge the car is starting, shifting, accelerating and braking well

Summary

A stylish European classic that’s easy to drive, easy to care for and easy to maintain, the CV is still an utterly essential taste of a simpler time. It’s well worth a look from even the most experienced enthusiast.

The safest way to buy a classic car online

Car & Classic's secure payment system protects buyers and sellers. At the end of the auction, the winning bidder transfers payment into a third-party escrow account. Once the transfer of the vehicle is complete, both parties confirm they are happy with the sale and the money is released to the seller.
Safe, secure payment process

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
