The Appeal
If you’re in the market for a classic four-seater convertible, Vauxhall’s Mk2 Cavalier may not be top of mind. They were always a rare sight: just 1,283 were sold in the UK, of which fewer than 100 remain road registered.
Alongside the fact that you’re unlikely to park next to another one, there are many good reasons to put it on your list, though. The Cabriolet uses the Mk2's chiselled good looks - which were allegedly influenced by Rover’s SD1 - to good effect and channels the SRi’s sporty vibe. It's a practical car too, with ample space for four and a large boot. The zesty 1.8L fuel injected engine delivers decent performance via the slick 5spd gearbox. They handle well too - when new, drivers really liked these cars.
This low mileage 1987 facelift Cabriolet is in very solid, unrestored condition and fully factory standard. Its handful of keepers have amassed a thick history file and it is said to run and drive well. It could be used ‘as is’ or there is scope for an enthusiast to improve it on their driveway or in their garage. It comes to market with MOT to June 2025 with no structural advisories.
