1949 Triumph 2000 Roadster - Four speed gearbox
Always an impressive looking motor car, the Triumph Roadster can claim to be the last production car to be fitted with a dickey seat - a throwback to the 1930’s.
Production of the original ‘1800’ model began in 1948 and halfway through 1948, the Roadster was to gain the 2. 1 litre power unit and gearbox from the Standard Vanguard. This ensured an increase in performance, giving a top speed of 80 mph with improved acceleration.
Offered here is a 1949 2000 Roadster that was in 32 year ownership by a former custodian. It was sympathetically refurbished some years ago and remains in good order bodily, however there are some paintwork defects, mostly to the front wings, that would benefit from attention and improve the appearance considerably, nevertheless, this does not detract from what is a good and highly useable example.
The engine was rebuilt several years ago and upgraded with the twin carburettor setup from the Triumph TR2 and a four speed gearbox conversion with floor change enhances the driving experience considerably, while the stainless steel exhaust system gives a pleasing sporty note.
The hood is in good serviceable condition, fitting well and is understood to be fully weatherproof.
To summarise, a good sound example of this charismatic Triumph with room for improvement cosmetically. It is well known to the Triumph Roadster Club and has participated in a number of their events and won various awards in the past.
