EXTERIOR
This exemplary MR2 looks fantastic in its factory coat of white. The original paintwork remains to an excellent standard throughout, still complemented by the classic pinstripe detailing along the sides, front, and rear. Looking closer, all rubber seals, decals, and trim pieces display a fresh appearance, with only a handful of very minor imperfections to the body as any signs of age.
The angular styling of Mk1 MR2 is wonderfully retro, and the desirable T-bar roof option makes for an excellent way to enjoy the sun whilst driving. When not in use, the removable glass panels can be neatly stowed away behind the seats in their tailored storage bags. Pleasingly, all the roof seals are still in excellent, watertight condition having never been allowed to dry out or perish.
INTERIOR
The ‘80s interior truly defies the car’s 28 years of age. Everything within the cabin presents impeccably, from the unmarked leather upholstery to the wear-free centre console and dash. The supple sports seats offer a fantastic driving position, with all controls in easy reach. All the switchgear still feels solid to operate and there are no unsightly scratches to any of the interior trim. At the front of the vehicle the under-bonnet area with spare wheel is remarkably clean, and at the rear the carpeted boot space is equally spotless.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The MR2 sports Toyota’s naturally aspirated 4A-GE DOHC 1. 6. The engine is equipped with DENSO electronic port fuel injection and a variable intake geometry, or "T-VIS", which gives a maximum power output of 128hp to UK examples such as this one. Having seen just 17k miles of use the engine and all running gear are still in great shape. The car was subject a full service and timing belt change less than 2k miles ago. The exhaust system was also replaced last year.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 14-inch wheels have just been refurbished to the highest standard by Lepsons. Immaculately finished in the correct paint scheme of silver with grey slots they look absolutely stunning. They are wrapped in Continental tyres front and rear, all with at least 5mm of tread remaining.
HISTORY FILE
The MR2 was first registered in January 1990; it was supplied new by Mile Oak Garage, Brighton. After covering just 686 miles in its first five years the car was sold to the second owner through Yeomans Toyota in February '95. It did not change hands again until 2008 when the current owner took possession.
The History File is complete with the original MR2 document pack along with the service booklet and all dealer-supplied manuals. The most recent service and timing belt change was carried out less than 2k miles ago. All previous maintenance was carried out at Toyota. The paperwork is complete with plenty of past MOTs, a spare key, and a fresh HPI certificate for the new keeper’s piece of mind. The original Yeomans plates are still present with the car, as is the bill of sale.
