A prancing horse with the Testarossa designation will forever be iconic. The reason being the significance, where the name pays homage to the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa, a racecar which dominated in Le Mans and Sebring to say the least. Testarossa stands for red head, this being a reference to the red valve covers on the engine.
Naturally, the Testarossa model had big shoes to fill. Introduced in 1984, this 12-cylinder mid-engine sportscar came with a 4. 9 Litre Flat 12 mounted to a five-speed gearbox with power peaking at 385 hp. Modernisations came in the form of a Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection and a Magneti Marelli electronic ignition.
Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti and Emanuele Nicosia from Pininfarina, the Testarossa took the wedge shape of the 1970s to the next level. The motorcar featured improved aerodynamics, where the large functional side intakes improved cooling to the side mounted radiators.
The example we offer sale finished in Rosso Corsa over Nero with Rosso carpets, is best describe as a time warp machine. The motorcar being delivered to its first owner Mr Emile Vergan on the 6th October 1988 by the French importer Charles Pozzi, under the temporary Parisian registration of 5937 WW Z92. On the 19th October 1988, the permanent registration is assigned as 1942 ZX 91 and stays on the vehicle until Mr Vergan’s change of address to sunny Saint Tropez in May of 1995. Now registered 2842 XX 83 (Plates included), the motorcar remains in Mr Vergan’s ownership until December of 2014 showing just under 9000 km (5, 590 miles). Acquired in October 2017, by its current and third owner, the motorcar has been UK registered and recently serviced. She currently has 9800 km (6, 090 m) and comes with all books, tools, original tires, radio and Alcatel Carphone still in place since 1988.
