Description
Having being brought up with Humbers and travelling daily to school also completing family holidays in both the UK and Europe in a Humber 12/ 25. It quite a surprise me that it has taken this long to get behind the wheel of a 14/ 40! I'm delighted to confirm to my surprise how different they are as a car.
For anyone who hasn’t considered a Humber or looked at one in detail, you will be delighted to see the quality of engineering bestowed on the car in all areas. The 14/ 40 featuring such luxuries as front and rear winding windows, when other at this time were still on detachable side windows utilizing a peg and hole arraignment as found with a 4 ½ litre Bentley.
The particular car I offer KW4426 is a very well know car in Humber circles. Finished in Humber Mole with Brown leather which presents in exceptional condition both mechanically and cosmetically, this is reassuringly mirrored by the underside, with everything under here looking well cared for with no signs of tiredness.
During the ownership of the present custodian, the engine has seen some works. Following the discovery of numerous small cracks, and previous stitch welding in the block. A replacement block was located within the Humber register membership. This was all professionally machined, new piston rings along with new valves fitted, during 2018 discs were fitted on the lay-shaft. The car has performed without questions and I can’t see why it wouldn’t do so for her new custodian.
The accompanying history file comes with the invoices and photos associated with the above work. The original block will also be passed onto the next owner. This file also has numerous photos featuring the car during the 1950s.
The Humber register is a club I have grown up with, my family is still closely associated with on an almost daily basis. They are a friendly bunch with a huge technical knowledge base, along with a very good spares scheme. As a sideline I still look back on The Annually Humber Rallies, I attended with fond memories. KW4426 is still located at her family home at a place called Tottington, just outside Greater Manchester.
