Description

The Singer Gazelle V was introduced in the August of 1963, following on from it's brother the Hillman Minx's design update. It had a newly designed body with larger doors and a 1592cc engine. It also acquired front disc brakes and an all synchromesh gearbox. According to the DVLA there are only 260 left running on UK roads.

The quite remarkable example we offer here has what an antique dealer would call fantastic provenance having covered just 21, 000 miles from new. The mileage is all documented in the car's extensive history file. The car was supplied new in March 1964 to a Mr. N. Vowles of Coventry by a local Singer Dealer by the name of Percy Blamire Ltd of Queens Road Coventry. The history contains a letter from the dealer to Mr Vowles advising him that the car would be ready for collection on the 10th of March. Mr Vowles would keep the car for the next 13 years and covering just under 20, 000 miles. The car was then acquired by Nuneaton garage owner Mr Gibbs of Arbury Service Station, Bulkington, Nuneaton near Coventry. Mr Gibbs kept the car in his own collection for the next 40 years and covering just 1, 600 miles. He then sold the car to of all people a Classic Austin car collector, who was a retired Motor Trade service Manager with a warranted 20, 000 miles. The car has now coverd a genuine 21, 000 miles from new. During the last owners tenure the car was treated to new radial tyres to replace the old cross ply tyres. The old old tyres still accompany the car as extra proof, if extra proof was needed, of the car's originality. The car has had a small amount of cosmetic paintwork but still retians the majority of its original paint.

The history file makes very interesting reading with MOT certificates going back to 1973, service bills, old tax discs, original driver's handbook and copies of old log books including the car's original buff log book. As it is now impossible to apply to the DVLA for a history trace of a car, here we have a car with all the car's ownership well documneted in the history file.

The car is ready to show and would be an ideal addition to a serious Rootes collector's fleet.

Part exchange welcome, funds either way.
