1959 Austin-Healey 100/ 6 (fitted with 3000 engine)
The replacement for the original Austin-Healey 100, the new six cylinder 100/ 6 was to make its debut in 1956.
Featuring a longer wheelbase than the previous model together with a more powerful engine – this being a tuned version of the ‘C’ Series unit as used in the Austin Westminster.
In 1957 production was transferred from Longbridge to the MG plant at Abingdon and in total some 14, 436 100/ 6 were produced before production ended in 1959 with the introduction of the 3000.
This example was originally exported to North America and was manufactured in January 1959. It left the Works on the 24thof that month destined for Los Angeles according to the Heritage Certificate supplied.
The car returned to the UK some 30 years ago and underwent extensive restoration including conversion to RHD. It has an engine from a later Austin-Healey 3000, which would appear to be fitted whilst the car was in the USA.
Of good, smart appearance and driving very well, finished in Old English White and Red with red interior trim, this represents an opportunity to acquire one of these charismatic cars for a modest sum. There is a large file of paperwork together with an original workshop manual.
