Description
The Volvo 140 series was produced between 1966 and 1974 with styling updates in ’71, ’72 and ’73. It was hugely successful, over a million were produced and the basic body shape stayed in production well into the 1990’s.
This car is a 1970 144 saloon in its original colour of dark blue with a light blue interior. This car is a real survivor, in outstanding condition. It came to us from long term private ownership and has led a cosseted life with just three owners from new, the last for 19 years and just 58, 000 miles recorded which is almost certainly correct. The underside is in excellent order and has never been welded thanks to the generously applied factory under-seal. The upper body is also excellent and rust free and the paint finish is very good with the odd very minor imperfection but no rust. The interior trim is close to perfect and everything works including the period “Eight- track” stereo which comes with a selection of tapes! The under-bonnet and boot area also present very well and the original ”Volvo” fuel can is present. On the road, this low mileage Volvo starts instantly and runs and drives beautifully. The last owner bought and fitted a set of twin Stromberg’s and matching manifold which as well as looking the part, are correctly set up for the car and give some extra “go”. Various other new parts have recently been fitted including a new radiator, two new brake callipers and a difficult to source brake servo.
We are particularly proud of this Volvo – it’s one of perhaps just four or five “pre-facelift” saloons left on UK roads and as tough and practical as a Mercedes from the same era but much rarer and substantially cheaper to own and run.
