SUMMARY
A lovely, low mileage example of this superb little roadster, which now seems to be fast heading for classic status; a status I think it rightly deserves too. The TT (8N as its known in Audi circles) was an instant success at its launch and throughout its model life, but that sales success especially among a certain sector of TT buyers, also saw it dubbed as a “Hairdresser’s car” which is fine if you’re a Hairdresser, but that somewhat unfair reputation overshadowed just how good these little pocket rockets are, and I think did put some buyers off. However as the years have passed, and the Hairdressers types have now moved onto other cars, the true car enthusiasts among us are now realising the true merits of the TT 8N, hence its seemingly rapid elevation towards classic status.
Being a Mercedes specialist, my obvious comparison is with the Mercedes R170 SLK, and although I shouldn’t say it, I have to admit the Audi TT is a better in many ways; it’s much more fun to drive, the performance feels much more urgent, it doesn’t rust and it handles considerably better too, thanks to Audi’s famous Rally bred Quattro all wheel drive system, infact the grip in corners is nothing short of amazing.
I originally sourced this car for one of my customers who wanted a summer convertible, but he ended up buying a very early SLK, as he felt more of an affiliation with the three pointed start, and felt he was almost cheating on the MB brand by buying an Audi; I think he may be regretting that loyalty now, looking at how well this car has turned out.
Having bought this car from my Mechanic’s daughter back in April, on the advice of a VAG specialist who’d worked on it, I knew that the big jobs (i. e Cam Belt, Water Pump and Cam Chains) had all been done last year. It was being sold as my Mechanic’s daughter was getting married and the car, which she’d only used as a Sunday car, was somewhat surplus to requirements, so it was one of those rare genuine sales.
As I really like this car, my preparation went a bit further than I originally planned, but I’m sure you’ll agree the end result shows that extra effort was well worth it.
This included the following:
* A Full Service (Oil/ Filter, Air Filters, Brake Fluid Checked)
* New Rear Discs/ Pads
* Haldex (Differential) Oil/ Filter Changed.
* Aircon Serviced & Re-gassed
* MOT (Advisory Free)
* Replaced Pop Up Wind Deflector (old one was seized due to lack of use)
* Replaced Battery
* Replaced Battery Clamp
* Replaced Climate Control Knob Cover (common TT thing and not cheap!)
* Wheels Professionally Refurbished
* Suspension/ Underside Dynax UC Coated
* Various bulbs, clips etc. replaced
* New Number Plates
* Vehicle Detailed
If you’re in the market for one of these, or indeed any roadster (SLK, MX5, Z3/ 4 etc), you won’t go too far wrong with this little gem. The TT (8N) is still represents excellent value for money at the moment, but just lately I’ve noticed values are creeping up, so it’s a case of get one while you can! I think the first generation TT will be one of those cars you’d wished you’d bought while you still could…remember the Audi Quattro UR, you could once buy those for £3500 not that long ago, but nice examples of those are commanding upwards of £35, 000-40, 000 now!.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice…I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
Any other questions, please feel free to contact me via the details on my website. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.
Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
Thanks for reading my advert!
