1977 Toyota Hiace Camper . He was first registered in the UK in 1977 . Manufactured in 1976
The origional conversion done by Hilander .
The registration plate is origional RAY 752R and has been valued at £800. 00 by an online valuation company.
RAY is 43 years old and therefore registered with the DVLA as a classic vehicle so is now both Tax and MOT exempt .
He is origional as far as the running gear , engine , gearbox etc.
It has the bullet proof 1. 6 petrol 12R engine with the 4 speed manual column change gearbox.
No fancy gizmoo`s . Basic as can be .
Wind up/ down windows , no A/ C . No central locking and No power steering , No Airbags , No ABS brakes . Drum brakes front and back.
I have owned RAY for 3 years . It took me the first 12 mths to get it where it is today. It was an absolute mess . the exterior and interior has all been redone . There were no skylights , all had been removed and blanked off . The interior ceiling was soaking wet so all removed , re-sealed . New skylight fitted with fan and led lights . The ceiling has been fully insulated , a vapour barrier put in and the cladded with white pvc panels .
The cupboards have all been repaired , repainted and fitted with new handles and catches .
There is a 2 burner hob with integral sink . The fridge works on 12v and 240v , and works well . Gas disconnected as it would not run on gas.
New work tops installed . It also has blinds fitted with fly screens .
The interior layout is basically the same as when I purchased it . It has to side seats which make up a 4` wide bed . It was origionally designed as a 3 berth with a single over the cab . This was all altered , so over the cab has been divided into two storage compartments , where you can store bedding , awning etc.
It has 12v & 240v electrics . A solar panel has been fitted to keep leisure battery topped up.
There is also a water connection point outside for direct connection to site services .
RAY has been repainted . Okay it`s not a professional job but is clean , tidy and presentable. The cab used to be a horrible green , but has now been repainted inside and out a nice blue . The origional colour was blue.
My wife and I have had a few good holidays in this little camper . I currently insure this on Fully Comprehensive for £175 a year on classic insurance with a mileage limit of 3000 miles per year.
The engine has not been modified so needs an additive to be added per tank of fuel . Not expensive .
It is with huge regret that I am selling Ray , especially after all the work I put in but we don`t use him as often as we wanted , but with our work commitments we just don`t use him and would rather him go to a good home where he will be used , appericiated and looked after to keep this handsome little camper on the road .
The steering box was rebuilt last year by a professional company in the Midlands . The front brakes have had the Brake Shoes all relined.
Where ever we go we get smiles and waves and folks wanting a look . This is a rare camper , I have not seen another one on the road anywhere and I travel up and down all over the country as a Courier .
So if you want a classic camper and don`t want to follow the crowd and have something diferent than the usual VW campers then you won`t do any better than RAY.
