SUMMARY
Firstly, just to point out this car is * NOT* a Japanese import, but an exceptional UK supplied vehicle, in pristine condition, and unlike a JDM import, comes with most water provenance you're likely to find. It's areal one off and a car I know very well too.
Supplied when new by Lancaster, Europa, Sheffield, this W210 E430 was originally bought as part of a five new car collection, by a gentleman of considerable means on his retirement; he’s ordered one of each of the Mercedes models at the time, all in the same colour combination; Silver with Grey Leather.
Following his passing some ten years later, the collection was disposed of by the same supplying Mercedes Dealership, and this superb E430, which had only covered about 4000 miles at the time was bought by a gentleman from the Belsize Park area of North London, who kept the car for trips to Norfolk, owning it right up to December 2014 when I bought it from him on the very last day of that year; at that time it had covered just 29, 000 miles and I vividly and fondly remember the effortless 220 mile trip home up the M1. This was the start of my five year involvement with this car, in which time I’ve sold it twice; both of those owners were avid Mercedes enthusiasts and only used the car sparingly. Both owners also, without exception, have religiously kept up and even surpassed the required maintenance schedules, so at 40, 990 miles the car is still as good as ever.
This is also an extremely well specified vehicle with features like electrically heated and cooling seats, Command SAT NAV, Electrically Adjusting Memory seats etc, etc, the list goes on and on. The best bit though is the car has just covered a genuine 40, 900 miles and has a full and water tight Mercedes service history to back it all up too. Bodywork is in keeping with rest of the car with none of the corrosion lesser versions of the W210 seems to suffer from. As such, the car still feels, drives, looks and smells like a new car; every trip is an absolute pleasure.
I absolutely love this car, think of it as an “Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove” a "normal" W210 E-Class, this isn’t; it’s the rather special silky smooth, extremely powerful V8 equipped E430, which would have cost over £55, 000 when new, and one which shares many of its mechanical components with the AMG version, but isn't quite as "in your face" or doesn't have that over jarring ride of the E55. What is does have though is something which is much more subtle, yet great fun too; the surprise factor. On the surface of it, it looks like a fairly normal E-Class saloon, but it’s what lurks under the bonnet will see most other cars on the road disappear from view with a flick of your right toe; the power delivery is highly impressive and seemingly never ending, yet is both smooth and ultra refined; there’s very few cars that can match the almost perfect balance of comfort, power and sportiness of the E430.
I bought this car back in August this Year from the last owner of almost three years, who kept the car as more of a toy, keeping it garaged and only used it in dry weather, so it’s come back to me as good as when it left. However, as I do with all my cars I’ve been over it with a fine tooth comb, and addressed the only two advisories it’s ever had at MOT, namely a minor oil leak from the differential (which most MB’s tend to suffer) and a power steering pipe which was advised upon for minor surface corrosion. In addition to this the car had a major service, and a new quality battery was also fitted. I also had the fuel pump and filter replaced as the pump was just starting to “seep” fuel a little as the internal seals had perished, probably through lack of use. Finally I connected the car to my newly acquired Star Diagnostic machine which revealed the brake pedal switch was causing an intermittent ABS/ BAS problem, so I replaced that with a genuine Mercedes part and cleared off the fault codes, so all is fine there. I then ran a full diagnostic scan of the vehicle, which revealed it was in excellent health.
So, in summary, considering what this car cost when new, and given it's specification, condition and performance capabilities, together with the ultra low mileage, and “water tight” provenance and history, it has to be the bargain of the century. Also, as an extra bonus, being registered before March 2001, road tax is on a flat rate of £265 pa, and with sensible fuel consumption if driven sympathetically; why settle for a 3-cylinder lawn mower engined disposable Euro box, when you can have this full fat V8 Mercedes for a fraction of the price.
MTSV CLASSIC MERCEDES
MTSV (an abbreviation for Mark Taylor Specialist Vehicles) was born out an incurable and lifelong obsession for anything with four wheels on it, especially those carrying the legendary Three Pointed Star. Established by me, Mark Taylor in November 2005 when the Classic Car market was in its infancy and long before “everyman and his dog” had jumped on the Classic Car bandwagon. Specialising in Classic Mercedes from the late 1970’s, through to the 2000’s, I also frequently have the odd foray into other quality classics and sometimes even modern cars, however the qualification is always that it has to be interesting, and/ or just a little different; my theory, which has served me well so far, is that if I like it, someone else probably will!
My main specialisation is the legendary Mercedes W201 190 and Mercedes W124; I firmly believe these models were about as good as cars got in terms of sheer, teutonic quality, and believe them to be the best cars Mercedes have ever made. I’ve built up a substantial knowledge of both the W201 190 & W124 over many years, which I’m always happy to share, and have recently contributed to a W201 buying guide written by Julian Parish. I also have extensive experience of the most of the Mercedes models within my “band of interest” namely the W116, W123, W202 & W203 C-Class, W208 & W209 CLK, W210 & W211 E-Class, W126 & W140 S-Class, R170 & R171 SLK and the R129 SL-Class. Obviously as time goes on later models are coming onto my radar too.
MTSV has always, and will always focus on quality rather than quantity, and in doing so has earned, and continues to maintain an enviable reputation among its many customers both in the UK and abroad, many who are now three, four and even five times repeat customers, some of which have become good friends too. I’m also listed in the Mercedes Club Directory as a recommended business and I’ve also had several of my rarer cars featured in the motoring press too.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice…I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
