The final version of the MG Midget with rubber bumpers and 1500cc engine similar to the Spitfire, was introduced in 1974. For a design that dated back to the 50’s it was surprisingly quick and usable with a top speed of 100mph and 0-60 time of just over 12 seconds. It stayed in production until 1980 and the last 500 home market cars were painted black.
This car is a 1977 Midget 1500 in Vermillion with a black interior. The mileage is correct at just 75, 000 and the car has been in the same ownership since 1991. The last owner used the car only on “high days and holidays” but it has been regularly maintained and comes with a substantial history file. In 1993 the car was restored around a new “heritage” shell and has always been garaged since restoration. It presents in beautiful order as you would expect, the underside and upper body are superb and the interior is in excellent original order and it runs and drives very well. It comes with spare keys, tonneau and hood cover and a hard-top.
We are offering this car on behalf of a regular customer who has replaced it with an MGB that he bought from us. The engine shows strong oil pressure and the exhaust is clean but there is a rumble from the bottom end for two or three seconds from cold and at some stage in the future a set of shells or a bottom end re-build may be required – although it is worth noting that this is a £6k car once completed.
