The Wolseley 18/ 85 was launched in 1967 with various trim enhancements over the Austin and Morris versions, different front and rear styling and power assisted steering.
This car is a 1967 18/ 85 automatic in Saxon grey. It has had just two owners and covered a correct 18, 000 miles from new. The first owner a Miss Janet Ayres bought the car new from Lane’s of Herne Hill and kept it until 2000 although she gave up driving in 1980 when the mileage was 13, 000 and the car was garaged for the next 20 years. The second owner used it sparingly, mainly for car shows, covering just 5, 000 miles in his ownership. The MK1 was manufactured for less than 12 months and there are perhaps just half a dozen left. This one, as far as we can tell is the oldest survivor, registered June 1967.
This Wolseley is beautifully preserved and has never been welded or repaired. The underside is in rock-solid original condition, due to a life spent garaged and “Carseal” (lifelong guaranteed!) under-body treatment which the original owner paid for when the car was new. The upper body is also rust free and the paintwork is largely original and in excellent order with just the odd imperfection and touch-in.
The interior is in very good order with a little wear in places but is all original and everything works including the clock! As you would expect at this mileage, this 18/ 85 runs and drives beautifully. It was unused for several years so we have just completed a long list of re-commissioning jobs including new front calipers and flexi hoses and an oil and filter change and a hundred or so test miles. In preparation for sale and at some stage before we bought it, a new battery and four new tyres were also fitted.
This low mileage 18/ 85 is in excellent rather than show winning condition but could easily be taken to the next level with a minimum of expense. It also represents superb value and is more or less unique in terms of provenance. Comes with various items of history including original bill of sale, new and old registration documents, various old MOT’s and original handbook. Ready to use.
