A truly rare opportunity to own a lovely example of this rare limited number production Ford Escort XR3i Convertible All WHITE SE.
With only 300 ALL WHITE SE convertibles being produced these cars are always going to be in demand. This particular example is number 157 of 300. Purchased new from Jewells of Woodbridge for £14439 and registered on 26. 05. 1988. The first owners took the car off the road in 1992 and it was kept in a heated garage, although they still had it serviced at the dealership. The car remained in storage until 2003 when it was sold to its new owners.
The car is in excellent condition for its age save for the odd age related stone chip. There are no signs of welding at all, in fact the underside has been professionally under sealed, as has the battery tray area, this car really is a solid example. All the wheels have been powder coated and no blemishes at all. The fully working electric White power roof is in perfect condition too. Inside the car the White leather seats are in very good condition too with only slight cracking of the leather. The brown carpets and dash board are all in perfect condition. The car even still retains the standard radio and amp.
The XR3i runs and drives very well indeed, there is no smoke or tappet rattle on start up which is always common on the CVH engine usually. The engine has just received a full service including a new cam belt and water pump, Driving on the road with the roof down you cannot help but smile, the car feels crisp and tight with no unusual knocks or rattles.
In 1998 ford released a special all-white edition of the MK4 cabriolet. Three hundred were produced, of which 150 were right hand drive and the remainder in left hand drive for the European market. This makes it the most rare of all MK3/ 4 Escorts.
This model came with every conceivable optional extra as standard. This included fuel computer, heated front screen, ABS and the ECU2 radio and graphic equalizer. Additional standard features included items not available on the options list such as RS Body kit, RS Rear spoiler and White Rs Turbo wheels. And even more uniquely it cam with leather upholstery, which of course had to be White and was a first in an Escort.
Unlike other cabriolets, the dash and door card panels were a beige instead of the usual grey trim.
22 years on, most of the 150 in the UK are either rotten, lost there unique features or gathering dust unused in someone’s garage. This must make this car very desirable indeed and a must for any serious Ford collector.
