Morris Marina Coupe – Stunning Early Example

The Morris Marina was manufactured by the Austin-Morris division of British Leyland from 1971 until 1980. When British Leyland was formed in 1968 there was no design planning in place for the natural successor to the Mini, Minor or Farina model range – amazing! Work started immediately on designing a replacement and the Marina (& Allegro) were the somewhat rushed results three years later.

The Marina was an incredibly popular car in Britain throughout its production life, pushing the Ford Escort into second place in the UK car sales table in 1973 and regularly taking third or fourth place in other years. Although well over 1. 2 million Marina/ Ital’s were produced today they are a “rare bird” with under 400 on the road.

At Milestone Classics we are always looking for special cars that will appeal to the discerning collector or an enthusiast looking to buy their first classic on a budget. This stunning Marina Coupe ticks both boxes – you will not find a better example on the market today.

This very early Marina has had just five owners and the speedometer indicates a total mileage of 27, 000 miles. Although we cannot warrant this we are confident that it is absolutely correct – the condition of the car speaks for itself.

There is absolutely no evidence of corrosion (the car has never ever seen a welding torch), paint is excellent, the engine bay has been detailed, interior is like new and on the road the car drives perfectly.

The history file contains contemporary advertising broachers. Marina Operational Manual, a variety of old MOT’s & invoices plus a copy of Retro Cars magazine article written about the car in June 2010. The then owner explains that the Marina may be an ex-police car used as an undercover vehicle (there is a code etched on each pane of glass so that it could be identified by other officers) and a previous owner was a policeman. I suspect the car was purchased on the Workers Discount Scheme and cherished for many years as a previous owner lived in Cowley. Be nice to research this part of the cars story…..

In conclusion, a very rare survivor ready to be use & enjoy – we recommend early viewing, under COVED 19 conditions in order to fully appreciate this remarkable car.
