This outstanding Riley RME Saloon is a beautifully restored example ideal for shows, rallies, events, and touring. TPE 107 first came to us in early 2019 when taken in part exchange against an Alvis Speed 20. The RM was driven over to us faultlessly from Cottingham having spent 19 months with an East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club member. On arrival we sold the car to one of regular customers in Scarborough who has been buying classic cars from us for over fifteen years. He has used the Riley on a regular basis and having enjoyed this 50’s saloon, our customer is now changing for an open top car for the summer. From 2006 to early 2018 the Riley RM had one owner in Wilshire who in early 2007 trusted David Brown Vintage & Classic Restorations in Nottinghamshire to carry out a major restoration. Since completion in 2008, the Riley was enjoyed for ten years before coming north to Yorkshire in early 2018.
The Riley was rebuilt to an exceptionally high standard. Invoices are on file heading towards £30, 000 but we are told the full cost was in the region of double this amount. Photos are also on file showing the wood frame restoration and various bodywork being carried out on the car. Great time and detail were spent ensuring the wood frame was rebuilt to an exceptional standard and the car was stripped down with not only all trims removed, but also the front-end including wings, grill and bonnet. The body was then restored and treated to a top-class re-paint in two tone Black over Silver Grey metallic. Various re-chroming was carried out and the Riley RM Club supplied new bumpers and various trim items. The RM was treated to a new vinyl roof and the interior taken to a magnificent standard with beautifully re-veneered woodwork, expensive wood steering wheel, beautifully re-trimmed seats and door cards, high quality carpets and stunning wool headlining.
The Riley has arrived in mechanically excellent condition and the under bonnet presents as a superbly restored vehicle. The 1. 5 litre engine is incredibly clean and well presented, performance is as equally impressive with excellent oil pressure and a great performing engine. All ancillaries look super clean and re-conditioned, the gear changes are lovely and the RM handles beautifully. It is a wonderful driving car, it has proven perfectly reliable and over ten years on since rebuild it still looks beautiful in every respect.
