Description
Finished in Old English White with brown leather, this beautiful XK120 recreation is surely the most authentic and well sorted available this side of an aluminium-bodied car, which have a significantly less accessible price point.
Broomstick XK120s are generally regarded as being one of the best recreations as the bodies are superbly made with excellent shut lines and, most importantly, they are dimensionally accurate to the original.
All the running gear is classic Jaguar including the all important XK engine, resulting in them delivering a wholly authentic driving experience but with a few improvements.
Only about 35 cars were produced in total by Broomstick during the 90s.
This example was built in the mid nineties and has had two owners – the last for 20 years. During recent decades the car has been looked after and improved by the classic Jaguar guru, Graham Birks.
In 2014 Birks carried out a complete engine rebuild. It’s a 4. 2 XK with a late E-Type head, triple carbs, 10:1 pistons and a balanced bottom end. This drives through a new clutch and an all-synchro gearbox fitted with an overdrive that was rebuilt to competition spec last year.
Other recent work includes an all new XK120 wiring harness modified to suit this car, replacement adjustable dampers and a bespoke torque reaction plate designed and fitted by Birks to improve the rear suspension over the original design. An original style fly-off handbrake has been fitted, the dashboard has been remodelled to incorporate period Jaguar gauges and new alloy radiator to XK120 specification has been fitted.
To my mind, one of the lovely things about this car is how original and tasteful the car looks. Many overdo the chrome, walnut and piped leather and end up looking rather like the proverbial ‘tart’s handbag’, but with body-colour wires, proper XK120 lamps and bumper and a nicely patinated interior with the right steering wheel it looks correct and understated.
The car comes with all receipts and paperwork going back to the first receipts from Broomstick. Full weather gear including side screens are supplied with it. It is ULEZ exempt, recently serviced and will have a new MoT.
The condition is lovely throughout. It was very much loved by its last owner who drove the car extensively, enjoyed it immensely and spent on it lavishly.
Absolutely tremendous fun to drive with a very strong engine, a rorty exhaust note and excellent road manners. All the looks, performance and charisma of the original but significantly more useable and affordable.
