1931 Model A coupe . Manufactured in San Francisco. Though early life is not recorded in the states. The car spent much of its life in Hawaii. Imported to the Uk approx. 18 months ago from Portland Oregon. Always a dry state car. In the states recent work to mainly the drivetrain was completed to the tune of 15, 000 dollars. This included a new Mitchell gearbox which is a ford model A approved replacement using the original casing. This way superior set up gives you a synchronized 3 speed with all modern gearing etc. No more crunching thru the gears. As well as this work carried out by One of the most respected Model A restorers included much more. New rear diff including a better ratio for modern roads, new brakes all round, new king pins, new pitman arm and steering components, new greaseless waterpump, new 6 volt alternator instead of dynamo, new 6 volt sealed beam units, rebuilt shock absorbers , front and rear wheel bearings plus loads more . Unusually there is masses of invoices etc for work carried out in the USA.
In 2019 the car was imported correctly with its USA title and then given its UK registration .
Taken in Part exchange approx. 8 months ago the car was fantastic underneath and it was obvious where the money had been spent. Unfortunately the car was all Black with its original though restored Apple Green wheels. This wasn’t to either my taste or high standards so once again a major rethink was needed.
I took it off for a full strip down 6 months ago with the aim of keeping it to an original much sort after two tone color scheme. I sourced original color for the wheels and they were stripped and repainted. New centre caps were added to all Five and a new Ford Tan spare wheel cover was added to the sidemount.
The body shop took it back to bare metal, and removed the arches, running boards, doors, all glass etc etc . As was a color change all door shuts, dashboard, engine bulkhead etc all had to be done. An expensive job nowadays .
We also carried out the following work as this was obviously going to turn out to be a great car with all the work in America and now here .
New stainless bumper clamps,
New stainless radiator stoneguard,
New 6 volt led bulbs in new rear light assemblies
New licence plate brackets, new plate with new surround.
New body to body rubber seals and new bolt kits
New stainless running board step plates
New dickie seat stainless step plates.
New window seals all round.
New door handles.
New stainless grab handles for entering dickie seat.
Almost new foldable luggage rack.
New boot lid handle with lock.
New door and bonnet hinges.
New bonnet clamps.
The list goes on. Approx £6000 recently spent .
The bodywork and paintwork are now immaculate and the correct scheme just oozes that 1930s charm. Everywhere is super clean and the car is ready to go. We have even installed a new 6 volt battery after the car had been off the road in the paint shop for 6 months.
With its large history file, pictures were taken all the way thru of recent bare metal restoration, its great American history with large amounts spent this Model A coupe is fantastic value for money .
